Welcoming Congregation

In 1999, UUCB became a Welcoming Congregation to formally proclaim our acceptance and celebration of diversity centered around gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgender people (GLBT). The program required that our congregation commit to a year full of education and action, including a series of adult education classes, Sunday services focusing on GLBT issues, a review of our by-laws and employment policies, and a congregational vote affirming our desire to be a Welcoming Congregation.

Though we completed the program several years ago, members of our congregation continue to help with GLBT issues in the wider community, including working with the Safe Schools Coalition to help local school districts discourage bullying and name-calling, provide teachers with an understanding of GLBT issues, and give schools resources that deal with GLBT issues.
